New Swimwear Company Added - Jaked

I know you all must think I fell off the edge of the earth somewhere back in March, so I appreciate the support from a few followers of this blog who know what's been keeping me busy lately and away from blogging (eldercare for a family member). I will be posting sporadically again over the next couple of weeks while occupied with these personal issues. So I thank you for sticking with Wet Speedos. Sorry once again for the recent lack of posts.

I added a link today in the Swimming Gear section (below, left) to a company I'd not heard of before -- Italian manufacturer Jaked -- which was referred to in a recent post on Tony Austin's Southern California Aquatic Club (SCAQ) blog (http://scaq.blogspot.com/). Tony's SCAQ blog is just a wonderful journal, resource and photo gallery of all things swimming. Here's the photo from Tony's posting on Wednesday about the controversies over urethane coated competition suits, including Jaked's. A few other recent wonderful pix from the SCAQ blog follow.

Comments: What a Couple of Weeks

Normally I don't put much in the way of a personal nature into my commentary here, but I think a few words might be important.

Two nights after Thanksgiving, a member of my gay family -- a beautiful young man of 30 -- was assaulted by a shoplifter at the store where he works. The thief broke his jaw into several pieces with a heavy bottle, and he spent the next few nights in a hospital hooked up to endless tubes and monitors; he endured a long surgery during which his hugely swollen and disfigured jaws were wired back together, and then somehow he navigated that operation's excruciating aftermath. I spent several nights with him at his bedside along with other family members and friends. We are very proud of how calmly and patiently he suffered so many indignities and so much pain with barely a whimper.

In six weeks he will have the wires removed and begin physical therapy. When he is ready, I will help him get back to the gym, so we can both start swimming again (he's a competition swimmer, and he's going to teach me some moves I hope). I've been slacking for too long anyway. But for now, he's resting, and sleeping, and not able to eat, just drinking and sipping.

But now you know why I've been absent here since Thanksgiving.

Anyway, here's what he looks like, though neither of these guys is he. He looks almost exactly like the first one.

Here's to your speedy recovery, b.
